Ambassador Manuel Antonio Javier TEEHANKEE is on his second tour of duty having previously served as Philippine Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization in Geneva (2004 – 2011) and as Chair of the Committee on Trade and Environment (2007 – 2011).
He served as the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, Undersecretary of the Department of Justice (2001 to 2003) and Acting Government Corporate Counsel (2003).
He was admitted to the New York and the Philippine Bars for international arbitration and commercial law as well as appeared before the Philippine Supreme Court, the WTO Dispute Settlement Body, the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague, and tribunals governed by UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICC and SIAC rules.
He is a Professor of International Law at his alma mater, the Ateneo de Manila Law School, and a research fellow at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, where he obtained his PHD in International Law.
